Potato chips: you want to mimic the crunch, and maybe have something that's dippable. So, raw veggies work great. Baby carrots, celery sticks, cucumber slices. Also, there are baked corn chips. That's a good choice. They're not fried, so less fatty, and corn is a whole grain.

Ice cream: I swear until I was 6 and went to school, I thought that (plain) yogurt was ice cream, bc my mom told me it was! I would buy plain yogurt, the presweetened ones are too sweet. You can sweeten your kid's yogurt with some strawberry jam, and you can this way buy an all natural kind. Sorbet is also a good alternative to ice cream, and when I was a kid I also loved Italian ice. Oh! And these were my favorite: https://www.wegmans.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10052&productId=388998&catalogId=10002&krypto=QJrbAudPd0vzXUGByeatog%3D%3D&ddkey=http:ProductDisplay
They aren't super healthy, not a lot of real juice in there, but for a cold treat it's better than ice cream! Another idea is a bowl of fruit salad, but add a couple of squirts of reddi-whip. It adds almost no calories, but gives a little creaminess and sweetness.

Pop: this is the only thing I'm not going to suggest a substitute for, because I think that drinking water is the best way to go. Well, ok, as long as it just for an occasional treat, go with lemonade and iced tea, home made. Then you can control how sweet it is, and it really isn't difficult to make. 100% juice is a good one too. But again, not for everyday, there really shouldn't be more than 1 serving a day of juices.

Dips: There are healthy dips, the easiest way is to make it home made instead of buying pre made. Then you can make healthier substitutions like using low-fat sour cream, or low-fat ranch dressing. Some good premade options are salsa and canned vegetarian refried beans. The vegetarian refried beans are lower in fat, and have a lot of protein. You can warm them up in the microwave, and sprinkle just a little cheddar on top. You can also make an easy and surprisingly tasty dip for chips/crackers/veggies by blending cottage cheese and salsa. Or, try mashing chopped green onion in a bowl with some salt, until the juice from the onion is visible. Stir in low-fat sour cream, and that is a simple dip that isn't bad for you.

I recently discovered a web site (http://the-diet-solutions-program.org) that offers a free on-line video about a superb weight loss program. The video provides lots of informative content about how to lose 10% of unwanted fat in 30 days. The video made so much sense to me that I bought the book that the video is based upon.

The "The Diet Solution Program" weight loss program described in the web site video appeals to me because it does not involve starvation. I can still enjoy foods, I just need to choose which ones are fat-burning and which ones prevent fat-burning. The video on the web site goes over these foods. The book is a wealth of information about these foods.

The other reason I like this program is because it describes a diet that can easily be adopted into a lifestyle. Since it teaches how to lose weight by eating the right healthy foods, the fat is burned off naturally and stays off forever.

I was surprised about some of the foods that I was eating that I thought were healthy but were really working against me. The video and the book were real eye-openers and have changed me for the better.

You probably don't need anymore exercise since you are an athlete already. Just make sure that you keep your calorie intake between 1500-2000 calories per day. You should always start out with breakfast because that gets your metabolism going and you can start to burn fat.Obviously avoid the fattening food and high carbs. I know exactly what your talking about because I would like to loose 10lbs. myself. I am not fat either . I am 5*8 and weight 137'bs. Well, maybe I don't want to quite loose 10 lbs. but 7lbs. would be great. Just make sure you keep active and watch your calorie intake. I know it can be hard because my weakness is desert and I have to have a lot of will power since we have a lot of sweets in the house. Good luck to you.

if you are striving to lose weight while eating subs/hoagies, avoid mayonaise and I would switch from carb loaded whitebread loafs with some wholegrain breads.

Also, dont go overboard with cheese...
